Ded Moroz, the Russian "Santa"
« on: December 05, 2014, 02:59:49 PM »
My Hubby's Father's side of the family came from Russia

That means they passed onto me the knowledge of the Russian "Father Christmas" story...   :good:  thought you might find it interesting too   :)

Bumping this for the new folks as the season comes hurtling toward us once more   :)

This is what he and his helper look like traditionally.... I actually encountered one such pair in Holland in 1980 while celebrating my honeymoon, bles them, they bought us honeycakes for breakfast in the cafe they came into while we were taking some rest from our hectic schedule (although this isn't them if you see what I mean, just an example)

Yes, blue is the more original colourings, not red as is so popular now.

I'm going to celebrate Russian Christmas for sure (on Jan 7th 2016) under the circumstances   :)  pass the vodka   >:D :D  any excuse for a jolly, eh?   :drunk:

I believe the red originated in the USA, might have something to do with Coka Cola

I've heard of 'Ded Moroz' in some other eastern European countries as well. The words are slightly different, but clearly of Slavic origin. Didn't know the blue color robe was actually the original color though.

yes blue was the original, but thanks to Coka Cola, Santa turned red, and stayed that way, the power of advertising  :whistling:
